Watersmeet is a township in Gogebic County in the western U.P. and borders Wisconsin. Named because this is a place where waters meet. The population, at the time of the 2000 census, was 1,472 and is rapidly growing in population. A major employer in the area is the Dancing Eagle Lac Vieux Desert Resort Casino is one of the U.P.’s larger casinos. The casino of the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Ojibwa, which opened in 1996, employs hundreds from a radius of 30 miles and beyond.
