The Trout Lake Township is located in Chippewa County. As of the 2000 census, the townships population was 465 people. With the 465 people, there were 212 households. There was 19.8% of the households had children under 18 years of age living with them. The median age for the township was 49 years old.
Even though Trout Lake is a small town, it has much to offer to the sport enthusiast or the tourist. The area is great for hunting, fishing, swimming, sailing, canoeing, power boating, waterskiing, and many more things to do. At one time the town was known as “Carp Lakeâ€, but everyone always referred to the town as “Trout Lake†or “Lake with the Trout†so the name changed.
In winter, Trout Lake is where you should be. There are snowmobile trails that run in every direction. Trout Lake is one of the major crossroads for the 2,500 plus miles of snowmobile trail crossing. Ice fishing usually starts to happen around January 1st. You can spear northern pike or a sturgeon, hook a walleye, blue gill, northern and even perch. Many of the nearby lakes are open for ice fishing.
During May 15th to October 15th, enjoy some wildlife by camping at the Trout Lake Township Park. The park offers 83 campsites with 60 of those sites having electric and a few of the sites are on the lakefront. The camping area has a shower house, dumping station, and bathrooms. Also the park offers a picnic area, a ball diamond area, and ATV trails.
If you are not into camping, and still need a place to stay on your vacation, you can stay at Ellis Lodge. The Ellis Lodge has accommodations for small and large groups of people. The cabins can sleep up to 10, 18, and 20 people depending on the cabin you pick. You don’t have to have that large of group to get the cabin, they are also perfect size for a family or small group of people. The cabins are available to rent for a weekend or a weekly vacation. In the winter, the snowmobile trail is across the street from the cabins, and gas is nearby. If you don’t have your own sled, you can go into town and rent one. In the summer you will be very close to the lakes and trout streams, which leads to a fun time of fishing. Trout Lake has a boat ramp, swimming beach, picnic area for a family fun time. The lake is big enough for water skiing or fun with your own personal watercraft.
