Lake Gogebic lies between two counties, Gogebic County and Ontonagon County. Gogebic means “where trout rising make two small rings upon the surfaceâ€. Situated on the western end of the Upper Peninsula, Gogebic County is the place for outdoor recreation. The 12,800-acre Lake Gogebic is 12 miles long, the largest inland lake in the Upper Peninsula and fourth largest in Michigan. The time zone changes mid-lake, with the north half in the Eastern Time Zone and the south in the Central Time Zone.
