Felch was named after Alpheus Felch. Mr. Felch was born in 1804 in Limerick Maine. At a young age he was in poor health, but that did not stop him from completing his studies in law. He began to practice law in Maine, but because of his illness, he needed to move to a warmer climate. He was originally heading of Mississippi but he only got as far as Michigan. He stopped his travels and settled in Monroe Michigan. Within a little with Felch took the position of the village attorney. In 1843, Felch was appointed to the Michigan Supreme Court. He was on the bench until he was elected for Governor of Michigan in 1845. He left his term early so he could run for Untied States Senate. After being a Senate for the United States, Felch went to Ann Arbor to practice law again. 1874 Felch retired from his practices. A few years later, in 1896 Felch passed away.
The population of the town, according to the 2000 census, is 726 people. The number of households in Felch is 274 and 204 families. In the 274 households, 36.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them. There is 66.4% people who are a married couple living together. Throughout the whole town, 26.2% were people under the age of 18, 18.76% are the ages from 18 to 24, 27.4% were people from the ages of 25 to 44, 24.2% were people 45 to 64 and 14.6% were people 65 years old and older. The middle age group is 38 years old.
Felch, Michigan was developed in the early 20th century. There was a mining location at the edge of the Menominee Range.
In 1906 the first post office began operation in the city. To this day the post office is still in operation.
