Throughout the Upper Peninsula, there are many places where you can go camping to enjoy your vacation time. There are places where you will need to bring your own camper or tent and there are places that offer a cabin if you want to stay in a cabin instead of your camper or tent. Also there are places right on the lake(s) and other in the wood/forests. This is so you can get a different view of the Upper Peninsula and the wildlife that is around. Before you decide on where you want to go, check out some places online, for the ones that are listed and other ones that are not. A quick search by typing camping in the Upper Peninsula in any search engine will bring up a ton of places on where you can go and information about the places. Here are a few places that you can pick from. There are many more than what is here so look at all your options.

In Ahmeek Michigan the Sunset Bay Campground is open from June 1st until September 30th.  This campground sits on 70 acres on wooden land on a picturesque right on the shore of Lake Superior. There are a total of 40 campsites and three log cabin rental that are right by the lake. This is so you can enjoy the sandy beaches, swim, picking agates, gazing into the starry night and watching breath taking sunsets/sun rises. If you are one who enjoys hiking, there are also miles of hiking trails along old logging roads and a nice hike through the woods or you can walk along the beach. If you walk along the beach you might see a freighter pass by. The campsites for the campers are fully loaded, meaning with electricity, and water. There are also many tent sites as well. For the bath houses, they are updated with restrooms and showers, pay phones, ice, and a dump station for the campers. There is also a laundry room with washers and dryers. The cabins either are one or two bedrooms and all have a full kitchen and a log interior. All three of the cabins have a view of Lake Superior.

Wondering Wheels Campground is located in Munising Michigan, near the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.  This campground sits on a 440 wooded and landscaped park that offers you the finest surroundings for a fun filled family vacation. Wondering Wheels opens May 15th until October 15th. Some facilities that Wondering Wheels offers are large wooded campsites, an outdoor heated pool, children’s playground, mini golf, two game rooms, gift shop and camp store, bike rentals and much more to look forward to. Curtis Michigan can offer you Sherman’s Resort to stay at on your vacation.  There are rental cottages and chalets on the South Manistique Lake. There are guided hunting for bear and for deer. The resort is six miles south-west of Curtis, on a protected bay and the resort is located just to the west of the South Manistique Lake. The beaches at the resort are sandy which makes playing time for the children great and there is plenty of playing area as well. There are cabins to rent or you can bring a camper to stay in. There are a total of six sites that offer electricity, water, showers, picnic table, fire pit, and the use of the beach and the docks for your boat. There is also a dumping station available on the grounds. The cabins are either two or three bedrooms or there is the chalets that have two bedrooms. Furnishes in the

Open May 1st through October 15th is the Summer Breeze Campground in Iron Mountain. The Summer Breeze Campground offers a total of 70 nice shady campsites with picnic tables and fire rings. There are sites that have full hook-ups, as well as sites with just water and electricity, and a large open field for those who go tent camping. There are also many sites that you are able to just pull through for those who have the large RVs or trailers. Some things that the campground offers is a heated swimming pool, dumping station, playground for the kids, and courts for volleyball, basketball, tetherball and horseshoes. The camp store has ice, wood; a few other odds and ends that you might have forgot or just need. There is also a laundry room that offers free wireless internet access as well as dial-up and a phone. Just four miles west of Manistique Michigan is Indian Lake State Park. This State Park is known as a playground for the sportsman and outdoor recreationist. The park is composed to two different units which are separated by waters of Indian Lake. The South Shore Unit is a modern campground near the lakeshores. This unit has electric hook-ups, flush toilets, showers and offers the campers a wide choice of sites to pick from, a total of 145 campsites. There is also a sanitation station for self-contained camping vehicles and there are also two mini cabins that can be rented. Then the West Shore Unit offers 72 more secluded and sheltered campsites. The only thing is, is that these campsites are a quarter mile to a half mile away from the lake. The West Shore Campground has electricity, vault toilets and drinking water available. No showers or flush toilets are available. Indian Lake also has a swimming beach with a beach house and a boat ramp. There is also a volleyball court and horseshoe pits as well. The Tahquamenon Falls State Park is located in Paradise Michigan. This state park is hidden in the forest along the Tahquamenon River and is easily accessible for those seeking the quiet and solitude of the Upper Peninsula wilderness. The waterfalls are what help make the park what it is really about. There is a paved pathway that leads from the parking lot of the Upper Falls through an old growth forest to the observation platforms at the crest of the Falls. This pathway is also handicap accessible. There are steps that lead to the bottom of the falls where you can see the water crash into the Tahquamenon River. There are 25 miles of hiking trails located in the state park. There are also four campgrounds that are available in the park. Two of the parks are modern campgrounds located at the Lower Falls and there is a modern and rustic campground located at Rivermouth. Each campground is about 90 sites and has electricity, a fire ring, and table. The modern campgrounds have showers and flush toilets.
