Upper PeninsulaWelcome to Upper-Peninsula.com, your guide to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, one of the most beautiful places to visit in the United States! Situated in the Great Lakes area, between Lake Superior, Lake Huron and Lake Michigan, it is an area that was once well-known for its copper mines, which drew scores of mainly Scandinavian immigrants–Finns, Swedes, Danes, Norwegians–who have prospered there ever since. It is a wonderful tourist destination for the nature lover as well as anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and find peace in the midst of a serene natural environment.

Here, you can learn about the history of the Upper Peninsula, as well as the history of Michigan, its economic development, social and demographic characteristics, Upper Peninsula wildlife and opportunities for tourism, including hotels, lodges and attractions that make the U.P. a very attractive destination for people of all kinds. The Upper Peninsula also has an interesting political history, notably having a secessionist movement of its own that, for decades, has advocated for the separation of U.P. from Michigan and forming its own fifty-first state, to be called the State of Superior (since it borders Lake Superior). Recently, however, since the Mackinac Bridge now connects the U.P. with the mainland of Michigan, this secessionist movement has been less successful.
